Different Types of Mechanical Keyboard Switches: Red vs Black vs Blue vs Brown Switch

1. Red Switch

Linear switch body, trigger key travel 2.0mm, initial pressure 30cN, trigger pressure 45 ± 15cN. The reason why the red switch is a linear switch is that it has no sense of paragraph when pressing, it is straight down and straight up. At the same time, the triggering pressure is less, which makes it require less force when pressing, and it is suitable for long-term coders or keyboard operators. Although the sound of the red switch itself is not too loud, Cherry has introduced a special mute version for it. If you are not so obsessed with the sound of a mechanical keyboard, the red switch is a more balanced choice.

2. Black Switch

Linear switch body, trigger key range 2.0mm, initial pressure 30cN, trigger pressure 60 ± 20cN. It can be seen that the black switch, like the red switch, is a linear switch, but the trigger pressure is high. It is suitable for people who like the heavy touch of the keyboard and need to press vigorously. However, most people may feel tired after long-term use. It is estimated that the number of users of the black switch is the least among the four switches. The main reason is that long-term use is easy to cause fatigue, which makes many people think it is difficult to use. From my personal experience, the black switch is not so bad. If you get used to its feel, you will feel every word struck is powerful.

3. Blue Switch

For the section switch, the trigger keystroke is 2.2mm, the initial pressure is 25cN, the trigger pressure is 50 ± 15cN, the suction pressure is 60 ± 15cN, and the section stroke is 1.75mm. Although the trigger key travel is longer, the initial pressure is even smaller than the red switch, so it is easier to knock. However, in view of the paragraph feeling when pressing the blue switch, it will make a "tick" sound, which is similar to the ballpoint pen pressing the switch, so the sound will be loud. It is mainly used in offices or dormitories. The loud voice may easily affect colleagues or classmates. Please use it carefully. If the environment allows, the blue switch is the most rhythmic of the mechanical keyboard

4. Brown Switch

For the section switch, the trigger key travel is 2.0mm, the initial pressure is 30cN, the trigger pressure is 45 ± 20cN, the suction pressure is 55 ± 25cN, and the section travel is 1.25mm. The brown switch is the closest to the membrane keyboard because it has sections but is not obvious, and the trigger pressure is also light. If it is just transiting from the membrane keyboard, the brown switch is more suitable. At the same time, the nonobvious sense of the paragraph also makes the sound when pressing smaller than that of the blue switch. There are many fans of the tea scroll, mainly because it gives consideration to the sense of paragraphs of the green scroll and the quiet of the red scroll. Of course, the characteristics of the tea scroll are not so obvious, or the characteristics are the golden mean.

The above is an introduction to the differences between mechanical keyboard switches. Cherry's mechanical keyboard is the most common switch body at ordinary times, and also the switch body with a relatively large shipment. Considering that the buyers of the mechanical keyboard can start with these four switches, advanced users can consider some special switches.
